Getting To Know Bryson Dechambeau

Bryson DeChambeau is an American professional golfer known for his unique approach to the game. Born on September 16, 1993, in Modesto, California, DeChambeau gained attention for his scientific approach, often referred to as the “The Scientist” in the golfing community.

DeChambeau’s journey in golf began at a young age, and he quickly rose to prominence during his college years at Southern Methodist University. In 2015, he became the fifth player in history to win both the NCAA Division I championship and the U.S. Amateur title in the same year.

Bryson as an Early Golfer

Bryson DeChambeau’s journey in golf began at a young age. He developed a love for the game when his father introduced him to it, and he started playing regularly as a child. Like many young golfers, DeChambeau had his sights set on playing at the highest level and dreamed of making a name for himself on the PGA Tour. DeChambeau’s talent soon became evident as he started competing in junior tournaments. His hard work and dedication paid off when he earned a spot on the golf team at Southern Methodist University, where he continued to refine his skills.

In 2015, DeChambeau had a breakout year, becoming only the fifth player in history to win both the NCAA Division I championship and the U.S. Amateur title in the same year. He truly shone during the final round of the NCAA individual championship, where he sank a 15-foot putt to win the title. His exceptional performance quickly garnered attention, and he was soon on the radar of the PGA Tour. After graduating from college, DeChambeau turned professional in 2016 and earned his first PGA Tour start at the RBC Heritage event.

Although DeChambeau didn’t win during his rookie year, he showed immense promise with his unique style of play and analytical approach to the game. He kept improving and proved himself as a force to be reckoned with on the tour.

In 2017, DeChambeau secured his first PGA Tour top-ten finish at the Puerto Rico Open, and he continued to build momentum throughout the season, earning a spot in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

USGA Rules DeChambeau Can’t Use Compass

Bryson DeChambeau

The U.S. Golf Association announced on Thursday that Bryson DeChambeau will no longer be permitted to use a drawing compass in future events. DeChambeau had used the device at the Travelers Championship last month, which prompted the PGA Tour to seek a ruling on its usage.

The USGA, in a statement to the players, cited Rule 14-3 to explain that DeChambeau would be in violation. According to the statement, this rule prohibits the use of any artificial or unusual equipment during a stipulated round that could potentially assist in making a stroke or impact the player’s overall play.

DeChambeau argues that the drawing compass aids him in determining accurate pin locations and claims to have utilized it since October 2016. Although the use of the drawing compass has been disallowed, golfers are still allowed to employ a regular directional compass to determine wind direction. This isn’t the first time DeChambeau has clashed with the USGA; in 2017, he received scrutiny from the governing body for using a non-conforming center-shafted putter.
